About Stations

This is the history of my most personal project. It started in 2D back in 2011 and evolved into different forms over diverse technologies

From 2D geometric patterns to 3D sci-fi buildings and on-chain Stations next pictures show the evolution of this kind of generator.

2011. Evolving subdivision [Processing]

Recursive subdivisions in 2D

A well known technique used many times for a lot of artists.

Basic Model

Adding Colors

Textures

Shadows

Custom strokes.

All Together

2011-12. Jump to Space [Processing]

At some point I started visualizing those designs as a top view of some sort of city

Using a similar subdivision technique but stacking 3D geometry instead of drawing shapes the final form just exploded in front of my eyes.

2011-12. Improving render. [Sunflow]

I wasn't happy with the real time renderer. Eventually I found how to use Sunflow (a Java render library) in combination with Processing

In my old laptop back in 2011 high resolutions images could took about 1 hour to render but the final results totally worth it.

The project was abandoned and buried in a backup drive. Made some prints for me but never published these stuff

Now a curated selection of 100 hi-res renders have been rescued and published as a collection on Opensea.

To celebrate the sucessful launch of my first NFT collection I will give these renders to Stations holders.

2016-2018. 3D Printing [Openscad]

In 2016 I jumped into 3D printing. The only reason was because I wanted to have physical objects made with code.

One of my first models was an OpenScad port of this ‘city builder’. Procedural Cities Collection

And just for fun: Link to a great video of '3D Printing Nerd' who made a weeklong print of a huge city.

2021-22. Stations on the Blockchain [Javascript + Three.js]

I knew about Artblocks and generative NFTs living on the blockchain in summer 2021.

I applied with a prototype of this project. I took the idea of the 2011 sketch made with Processing and build a Javascript/Three.js version.

The idea of having a random interactive piece living forever in the blockchain fits perfect with this kind of project.

From first prototype to final form

In February 2nd 2022, launched a collection of 900 stations, generated randomly at the moment of minting. Full collection was sold out in 3 hours.
